My love affair with all things tribal continues! I found this amazing pendant on my travels and just had to have it. It appears quite old, although I have no way of knowing exactly when it was made. It's from Afghanistan, most likely made by the Turkmen people...renowned in the region for their amazing silversmithing skills and craftsmanship. The details in this pendant are purely amazing and I'm afraid my photography skills just don't do this piece justice. This does show a little age as can be seen in the photos but in such a piece it only adds to the charm. I always wonder who owned this in the past and how many hands has it passed through to come to me....and where will it go from here?
The pendant has a large central lapis stone either carved with a horse motif or perhaps Islamic writing...it's hard make it out due to its age. The central stone is circled by a ring of other stones, most likely turquoise, jade, and agate. The back is smooth and plain. It is not solid silver but is mostly likely filled with resin.
The beaded chain is comprised of genuine malachite and turquoise hoplite interspersed with silver tubes from Africa. Chain is 18" long with an additional 2" extender on the back so you can wear it as long as 20". Clasp and extension chain are silver fill.
